Gudi Padwa 2018 festival, will mark the beginning of New Year for the people of Maharashtra.
In South India festival is also celebrated in the form of Ugadi mostly in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states of India.
In terms of Marathi Vedic calendar or panchang ,Gudi Padwa will be celebrated in Maharashtra on 18/03/2018.
Gudi Padwa the name itself signifies Sanskrit name, which also means Chaitra Shukla Pratipada or Chaitra Shukla Paksha.
The festival is celebrated in the month of March (lunar month) or first day of Chaitra month which also signifies Vikram Samvat, the beginning of New Year.
The word padwa has its own significance which means first day of bright moon in terms of Vedic calendar. It marks the end of winter season and start of summer harvest season.
As per traditional beliefs and according to vedic puranas Lord Brahma created the universe on this auspicious day.
