  • Mark Your Calendars: Texas to Experience a Total Solar Eclipse in 2023

On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will blanket parts of North America. But before that, on October 14, 2023, the Lone Star State will experience its own total solar eclipse.

Mark your calendars, Texans, because this event is not to be missed. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, blocking out the sun’s light and casting a shadow on the Earth below. During a total solar eclipse, the sky turns dark, birds stop chirping, and the temperature drops.

The 2023 total solar eclipse will begin in the Pacific Ocean and make its way across the United States, with the path of totality passing through Texas. The path of totality is the area on Earth where the sun will be completely blocked out by the moon.

In Texas, the path of totality will pass through the cities of Del Rio, San Antonio, and Victoria, among others. The eclipse will last for about two and a half minutes in these areas.

If you want to witness this incredible event, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, make sure you have the proper equipment to view the eclipse safely. Looking directly at the sun, even during an eclipse, can cause permanent damage to your eyes. You’ll need special eclipse glasses or a solar filter for your camera or telescope.

Second, plan ahead for crowds and traffic. The total solar eclipse is a rare event that draws people from all over the world. If you’re traveling to Texas to see the eclipse, book your accommodations early and be prepared for heavy traffic on the day of the event.

Finally, make sure you’re in the path of totality. While parts of Texas will experience a partial solar eclipse, only those in the path of totality will see the sun completely blocked out by the moon.

The last total solar eclipse visible from Texas occurred in 1979, so this is a rare opportunity to witness a truly awe-inspiring event. Don’t miss your chance to see the sky go dark in the middle of the day and experience the wonder of a total solar eclipse. Mark your calendars for October 14, 2023, and get ready for an unforgettable event.
